Ph.D. Applied Physics or Doctor of Philosophy in Applied Physics is a Doctorate Physics course. Applied physics is a general term for physics which is intended for technological or practical use. The Master degree course includes exploring the fundamentals of electromagnetism, quantum and classical mechanics, statistical physics, thermodynamics and the properties of matter; a physics degree requires good mathematics and computing skills. The major areas of research of Applied Physics Department are Material Science, Fibre Optics and Optical Communication covering all branches of Photonics, Thin Films, Ferroelectrics, Quantum Electronics, Carbon Nano Tubes, Photonic Crystal, Metamaterials and Plasmonic Solar cells etc. The duration of the course is two years and it is career orienting in nature.
Doctor of Philosophy in Applied Physics Eligibility
- Candidates should have passed an M.Phil. Degree and a Post-Graduate degree in a relevant discipline with minimum 55% marks (50% for SC/ST/PH candidates) or an equivalent grade from a University or a recognized institution of higher training.
- Master’s Degree in a relevant discipline with minimum 55% (50% for SC/ST/PH candidates) or an equivalent grade from a university or a recognized institution of higher learning and five years of teaching/industry/administration/professional experience at senior level.
- Some reputed colleges and institutes conduct an entrance examination for admission.
