The Russian government has announced that Indian medical students, who left Ukraine due to the war, can continue their education in Russian universities. Oleg Avdeev, Russian Consul General has said that the medical syllabus is almost the same in Russia and Ukraine. This has evoked hope among students waiting for a campus transfer. However, no related guidelines have been released till now by the National Medical Commission (NMC).

"The offer by Russia is not a new initiative. The process to grant admission to Ukraine returned Indian students has been ongoing for the past few months. The helping hand would have served more effectively in curbing distress, if the announcement had been made more formally and a bit earlier," says Anuj Goyal, education co- unsellor and cofounder, Get My University.

Highlighting the cracks in the university transfer from Ukraine to Russia protocols, Goyal adds, "There is still no clarity on whether new students will require online documents from the parent university to relocate and continue with their MBBS course. Considering the NMC

gazette, the option of transfer or AMP is withdrawn. This is for- cing first-year students to apply for fresh admission, in case cur- riculum mapping fails to accommodate them in next suitable semester at the transferred varsity. Else, students are left with the option to attend online lectures by their respective Ukrainian universities."

Aaditya Raval, second year student at Bogomolates National Medical University, Ukraine is facing no campus transfer scenario as he is covered under the new FMGL provision. Raval says, "I took admission in December 2021 and came back in February 2022. At this time, I took online theory classes, for which I paid around Rs 12-15 lakh fee. Due to the admission datelines, I am restricted from taking a transfer and am forced to take fresh admission in Russia. I will now have to pay around Rs 30 lakh fee for the whole course."
