Established in 1973 as a Food Craft Institute, IHM Bhubaneswar started offering three-year BSc course in Hospitality in 1981 and was renamed – State Institute of Hotel Management. Further, in 1984, the Government of India upgraded the institute to ‘Institute of Hotel Management Catering Technology & Applied Nutrition’.

IHM Bhubaneswar is affiliated to National Council for Hotel Management & Catering Technology (NCHMCT) and it offers degree, diploma, craftsmanship and Hunar se Rozgar programmes to hospitality aspirants. IHM Bhubaneswar offers BSc degree course in collaboration with IGNOU.

The academic units at IHM Bhubaneswar include Food Production Department, Food & Beverage Department, Front Office Department, House Keeping Department, Bakery & Patisserie, Department, Computer Lab, Executive Development Centre, Incubation Centre and Library.

The hotel management college has a well-stocked library with 5,373 books, 680 dissertations, newspapers, maps, atlases and journals. IHM Bhubaneswar also offers hostel facility to students with a capacity to accommodate 60 female students and 140 male students.
