About IGNOU Delhi - Indira Gandhi National Open University

 

Indira Gandhi National Open University, also known as IGNOU was established in the year 1985 by an Act of Parliament. IGNOU offers distance learning programmes and there are 67 IGNOU regional centres, 29 overseas partner institutions,  21 schools of studies and approximately  2,667 learner support centres.  In the year 1993, the university has been recognised as a Centre of Excellence in Distance Education by the Commonwealth of Learning. The university is recognised by the University Grants Commission. Indira Gandhi National Open University is spread over 150 acres of land. IGNOU courses include 228 certificate programmes, diploma, undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programmes and there are 21 school of studies of that offer these IGNOU courses and they are are:School of Humanities (SOH), School of Sciences (SOS), School of Education (SOE), School of Continuing Education (SOCE), School of Social Sciences (SOSS), School of Gender and Development Studies (SOGDS), School of Computer and Information Sciences (SOCIS), School of Management Studies (SOMS), School of Health Sciences (SOHS), School of Engineering and Technology (SOET), School of Law (SOL), School of Journalism and New Media Studies (SOJNMS), School of Tourism and Hospitality Service Management (SOTHSM), School of Interdisciplinary and Trans-disciplinary Studies (SOITS), School of Translation Studies and Training (SOTST), School of Vocational Education and Training (SOVET), School of Agriculture (SOA), School of Social Work (SOSW), School of Extension and Development Studies (SOEDS), School of Performing and Visual Arts (SOPVA) and School of Foreign Languages (SOFL). 

Location

IGNOU is located at 93, Maidan Garhi Road, Maidan Garhi in New Delhi. The university is well connected to the railway, roadway and airway. Hazrat Nizamuddin Delhi Railway Station is around 16 km away from the university whereas the nearest airport to the varsity is Indira Gandhi International Airport and it is approximately 17 km away from IGNOU. The nearest bus depot - Malviya Nagar Bus Terminal is also not too far from the university and is around 4 km away from Indira Gandhi National Open University. Candidates can reach the university by hiring an auto-rickshaw or taking a cab.

IGNOU confers 2,37,844 degrees, diplomas and certificates at the 34th Convocation - Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) awarded over 2,37,844 degrees, diplomas and certificates of different programmes to the successful students at the 34th convocation. The convocation was held in the virtual mode. Shri Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, Minister of Education, govt. of India addressed the convocation. 

Dr. Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ laid the foundation stone of IGNOU Regional Centre Port Blair Building - Minister of Education, Dr. Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ has laid the foundation stone of IGNOU Regional Centre Port Blair Building virtually. On the auspicious occasion of 'Bhumi Pujan and Foundation Stone Laying Ceremony' of IGNOU RC Port Blair, Honorable Minister of Education,  Dr. Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ eulogized the varsity for its contribution to education. Pro-Vice-Chancellor Prof. Satyakam, RSD Director Dr. M. SHANMUGAM, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Nageshwar Rao, Finance Officer Dr. Jitendra Dev Gangwar, Chief Project Officer Shri Sudhir Reddy and Regional Director, Port Blair Dr.T.R.Satyakeerthy and staff were also a part of the Bhumi Pujan. 

IGNOU organizes “National Seminar on Valuing Water” to mark World Water Day - On the occasion of World Water Day, School of Interdisciplinary and Trans-disciplinary Studies, IGNOU organized a “National Seminar on Valuing Water”. The Prof. Nageshwar Rao, VC Indira Gandhi National Open University Chaired the session. Shri Rajiv Ranjan Mishra, Director General, National Mission on Clean Ganga, Ministry of Jal Sakti, Department of Water Resource, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation, Govt. of India was the chief guest of the Seminar.

  • Innovation Club - The Innovation Club of Indira Gandhi National Open University has creative minds who showcase their creative and innovative talent and generate new ideas and the members also organise various competitions for the students such as debates, poster making, quiz, etc.
