Master of Veterinary Science (M.V.Sc.) Course Details
M.V.Sc. or Master of Veterinary Science is a postgraduate Agriculture Science and Technology Course. Veterinary Science is a specialised medical field meant especially for animals only. The duration of Master of Veterinary Science Degree is 2 years covering Four Semesters. The maximum duration to complete the course is 4 years, the time may vary from institute to institute. The medium of instruction is mostly English unless mentioned otherwise. The course syllabus of M.V.Sc. is more research-oriented and includes more practical training modules than B.V.Sc. Veterinary Council of India is a statutory body established under the Ministry of Agriculture of the Government of India. It lays down minimum standards of veterinary education required for granting recognized veterinary qualifications by veterinary institutions. There are various veterinary medical schools and colleges in almost all states which offer Post Graduate Veterinary Science Course. M.V.Sc. course is based on one's chosen field of specialisation. There are several Universities that offer omnibus M.Sc. degree courses in Animal Sciences, e.g., Bharathiar University, Hyderabad University (Life Science – Animal Science), MJP Rohilkhand University (Plant and Animal Sciences). There are also Veterinary Science colleges offering M.V.Sc. courses in dairy-related subjects.
Master of Veterinary Science (M.V.Sc.) Eligibility
- Candidates should have completed B.V.Sc & AHB from a recognized by the Veterinary Council of India, are eligible for M.V.Sc. Course.
- Admission is based on marks obtained in PG Entrance Examination. Minimum age limit for M.V.Sc. is 20-22 years. Some Institutes do not have an upper age limit while some keep the upper age limit to 35 years.
- Candidates who have passed B.V.Sc. & A.H. degree under the Veterinary Council of India (VCI) regulations should have obtained a minimum of 55% marks. Percentage requirements may vary depending upon the institute. For SC/ST candidates a minimum pass is sufficient.
For foreign, NRI and PIO candidates the basic qualification of M.Sc. degree will have to complete deficiency courses as decided by the Advisor/Advisory Committee. - The minimum eligibility criteria for them will be Bachelor of Veterinary Science with C.G.P.A. not less than 6.60 in 10-point scale i.e. 66% marks.
- The selection of candidates for admission to M.V.Sc. shall be done based on the marks obtained in the Common Entrance Examination and the qualifying examination marks obtained in the B.V.Sc. & A.H. Courses.
