Electronics and Communication Engineering in India has come of age. Earlier telephone was a luxury in India but with advancement in technology, a landline phone became a common facility available to all. However, it was the accessibility of mobile phones that brought about a communication revolution in India. With most of the population, having a handset in their possession, Electronics and Communication Engineering courses in India also picked up. Electronics and Communication Engineering is an Engineering Field which is a combination of two Technologies i.e. Electronics and Communication with its implementation in the Field of Engineering. Electronics and Communication Engineer works in a group to design, fabricate, produce, test and supervise the manufacturing of complex products and systems i.e. Electronic and Communication equipments and components for a number of Industries like Defence, Entertainment Media, Satellite Networks etc. They work with microprocessors, fibre optics, telecommunications, television, radio etc.

With the rapid progress of the Information Society, the role of Communications is becoming even more crucial to increased Industry efficiency and competitiveness. The reason lies in the decentralisation of Computing Power, in both the Office and Factory Environment and the ability of Specialised Communication Networks to link all geographically and spatially separated elements. Therefore the Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering is one the most sought after career option for Engineering Graduates. Fresh Graduates of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering find quite good jobs in Electronics and Communication sectors.
Electronics and Communication Engineering jobs can be found in Central Government, State Governments and their Sponsored Corporations in Public Enterprises like All India Radio, Indian Telephone Industries, MTNL, National Physical Laboratories, Civil Aviation Department; Post and Telegraph Department, Co-ordination Department, Bharat Electronics Limited and few other government undertakings. Private Companies also offer excellent pay-packages to skilled and experienced Electronics Professionals. The Private Units dealing with manufacture, sales and services of Electronics and Communication consumer goods require large number of Electronics and Communication professionals for their functioning. Apart from Professional career, one can conduct Research work in this field by joining Ph.D programs or one can go for Teaching.
