New Delhi-

Delhi University has clarified that after the second allocation, students do not have the option to retain the earlier seat in case they do not like the new one. Once the student has opted for an upgrade, the seat will be automatically withdrawn, and the higher preference seat allotted, it said.

But many candidates are still confused about what will happen if their selected higher preferences do not have vacant seats. DU will release the second Common Seats Allocation System (CSAS) list on Sunday.

Rohini, whose daughter had been allotted a BA pass home science is confused about the second allocation, as the higher preference course does not have vacant seats. We had made 104 preferences and selected several courses. So as per the preferences, my daughter was allotted home science at Lady Irwin College. The higher preference courses in the list included psychology but none of the colleges have seats vacant for the course. There were other courses such as journalism which have seats but since it was in the lower order, now they cannot be selected. It has been completely wiped off. We are worried about how the process will be followed, she whined.

As per the university, upgrade means allotment of the higher preferences. A student, Ayushi, has a similar problem.. In the order of preference selection, I selected psychology, BA programme, and history. I have now chosen the option to upgrade because I did not like the BA programme combination. Psychology has no seats as I belong to the general category. History has seats but again, I can not reorder it as the lower preferences have been removed. They should have given the option to reorder all the preferences, she said.

Many colleges, on the other hand, are getting queries on if the students can retain the seat allocated earlier if they do not like the second allocation.

Gurpreet Singh Tuteja, admission convenor at Zakir Husain College, said- The university has issued a notice stating that with the second allocation, the first allocation will be forfeited and automatically withdrawn. In the second allocation, students will anyway be getting their higher preferences as per the availability of seats.

As per principals, this process has ensured that even in off campus colleges, admissions are largely done in the first list. Earlier, there used to be several lists. In off campus colleges, admission would start only in the third list, but this counselling system has made things easier, said Narendra Singh, principal of Zakir Husain College.
