New Zealand government has outlined a five-step process for reopening borders from Fe- bruary 28, 2022, initially for New Zea- landers to return from Australia and then from the rest of the world.
The Government also announced a fourth bor der exception class for up to 5,000 international stu dents to enter New Zea land from April 2022 to study for semester two this year, in addition to the earlier cohorts appro ved in 2020 and 2021. From October 2022, nor mal visa processing will resume, enabling international stu- dents to enrol for study in New Zea- land in 2023.
Education New Zealand chief ex- ecutive Grant McPherson said, "It has been an incredibly challenging period for New Zealand education providers, international students, and those who
support them. The sector has shown considerable patience as the borders were carefully managed to minimise the threat posed by Covid-19." McPherson further said that the inno vation and diversification into online learning and delivery of courses off shore, including pathway program mes over the last few years, would remain a feature in the industry as it moved forward. "In addition, from March 14, 2022, students entering New Zealand through the border exception co horts will have the op portunity to self-isolate, rather than going thro ugh Managed Isolation and Quarantine facilities subject to complying with all the required health and border requirements," he added. Students who have questions about this border class exception should contact their education provider in the first instance. They can also visit Nau Mai NZ, for further information.
