Increasing demand for BBA specializations

The future is geared towards multi-disciplinary thinking, writes Tarun Anand

Philip Kotler once said, Marketing takes a day to learn. Unfortunately, it takes a lifetime to master.

Marketing is key

Lets face it. The way we run business has changed completely. The sales department is not the whole company, but the whole company better be the sales department, is also a piece of Kotler's wisdom. Whoever you are and whatever is your pursuit, you must learn marketing.

One way to learn marketing early on is to get a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA). Many students, after completing class XII, are not sure which undergraduate (UG) course to pursue They might have missed the Medical and Engineering bus and are probably at the receiving end of skepticism Parents need to help children keep their minds open.

A BBA course in Marketing can lay the foundation for employability in the corporate world. Students from any stream can pursue Marketing as a specialization. There are specialist is in various career options in the sector of Business in sectors of media & entertainment, advertising, eCommerce, and digital marketing. Careers range from product manager, marketing communications specialist, services marketing, eCommerce specialist, and channel marketing. Marketing is also induction into entrepreneurship.

A January 2021 study by Illuminate Ventures, a seed-stage venture firm, that surveyed 500 business school students at more than 20 schools showed that Management students are optimistic about entrepreneurship as a career path. Further, more than 85% of the students said that they were interested in entrepreneurship as a career path.

Financially sound

Todays generation idolises Elon Musk, Mark Zucker berg, and Ratan Tata. Other than being a master at Marketing, a big aspect of the success of these role models is their ability to manage money. Covid-19 has reiterated what Benjamin Franklin already taught us, Beware of little expenses; a small leak will sink a great ship.

Hence, the other preferred specialization is Finance. Students from a Commerce background are most likely to take up Finance as their specialization. This makes them career-ready for industries such as banking, including corporate banking, investment banking, retail banking, insurance, and financial services. Professions in capital markets, such as equity research, mergers & acquisitions, trading across asset classes, portfolio management, wealth management, treasury, and fintech are also accessible to them.

Analyzing businesses

An emerging BBA specialization is Business Analytics, which is generally taken up by students interested in pursuing a career in technology. These ultimately make them specialists in business analytics, intelligence machine learning. All industries are being compelled to digitally transform their business strategy, which will lead to a surge in demand for skill sets that are a combination of business and technology.

The market for Business Analytics is expected to surpass $200 billion as companies hire professionals from this specialization in consulting, startups, FAANG (Facebook, Amazon, Apple, Net flix, and Google), telecommunications, and many more.

Whatever the specialization, students today realize that the future is geared towards multi-disciplinary thinking. They would benefit from combining a Marketing program with Economics or Psychology, or a Finance program with Business Analytics or Design. The world is open to those who dream big.
