Food Microbiology is the scientific study of microorganisms both in food and production of food. The course has attracted eyeballs from various segments, as the food itself is now being looked at differently and has become the objective of various studies, something that was unheard of previously.
Food plays an important role in our lives. In fact, our very sustenance depends on the quality of food we consume. Therefore, a course that helps us understand how food combinations and even food works for our body is crucial. This field of education will also affect food quality and safety, which is a major concern to public health, especially in the current pandemic hit the world.
Food microbiologists study the interactions between food, microorganisms, and their environment to ensure food safety, quality, and value. The field also revolves around methods to preserve food and also prevent it from getting spoilt.
The scope of Food Microbiology is huge and is applicable across industries including FMCG, packaged foods industry, agro and dairy industry. Specialized studies in this field encompass modules on food safety and spoilage food fermentation, food biotechnology, hygienic production of food, the impact of diet on health, molecular mecha nism of infectious microbes, and the role of gut microbiota in human health.
