About Dharmsinh Desai University - DDU

Dharmsinh Desai University was established in the year 1968. It was originally an affiliated college namely Dharmsinh Desai Institute of Technology (DDIT). It was granted autonomy first in Gujarat in 1991 & then in the year of 2000 it earned a status of Deemed University by Govt. of India, in recognition of its commendable standards in Academia. In April 2005, the Government of Gujarat declared this Institution as a State University.

The University offers manifold undergraduate & postgraduate courses in Engineering & Management; besides providing a scope for doctoral studies. The university also conducts the bachelor level degree courses in Dental Science, Pharmacy & Commerce. The University also conducts the continuing education programmes not simply for the professionals but also for the under-privileged sections of society. Every year a month long programme on Computer Awareness is conducted for rural women of this region. The university also offers BE integrated MBA program and Master of Computer Application (MCA). A five year joint B.E.+M.S. programme has been started with the University of IOWA, USA. As per an another MoU with KHS Germany; the final semester engineering students undertake their four months long Industry Project at Germany. A centre for research in Nano Sciences & Surface Engineering has also been recently established.

Location - It is established in the city of Nadiad in Gujarat state in Western India. DDU is located on Dakor-Anand highway . The campus is close to Mahi Canal.

Transportation - The campus is well connected and easily approachable by bus and railway. It is just 5 kms from the Central Railway station and the central bus depot.

Facilities

Library - Library at university comprise 17,000 books and 80 Journals, arranged distinguishing various branch. It is adorned by LAN and all computer facility. Pure & cold drinking Water, Photocopying x facilities, News paper and other knowledge based books, magazines etc. are available here.

Placement Cell - It is an integral part of the University. It has enough infrastructure for its effective functioning. The various activities, which are being undertaken regularly are - placement of the students, entrepreneurship awareness & development programmes, Invited lectures from the persons from industry & other institutions, personality development programmes etc.

R&D Center - The R & D Center of university undertakes real life IT based projects from Industry and Research organizations including Government and provides technical solutions to their problems. The R & D facility is also extended to final year students of our institute for their final year project work.

Other Facilities - These include Multimedia Hall for First Year Students' Lectures, Seminar Hall for Presentation, Conference Room for Policy Making and Meeting, Placement Cell, Parking Facilities etc.

Playground - There is a playground at the University Campus for Cricket, Football, Volleyball and Basketball. We also have a separate sports room for Badminton, Table-Tennis etc. This sports room is well equipped with the latest gym equipments. The University provides instruments for all types of games.

Canteen - Canteen at the University Campus has all facilities like pure drinking water, fan, lights, etc. Canteen has an individual parking facilities. Various types of snacks (South Indian, Chinese dishes), Lunch (Fixed Thali - Gujarati & Punjabi), Cold Drinks, Ice Cream, Fast Food etc. are served at the reasonable rate.

Achievements

• Faculty of Technology is the only grant-in-aid institution in the state to receive World Bank Assistance of Rs.25 crores.
• The R&D centre of the University has developed a Portrait Building System which is successfully used at every District Police Head Quarters in the Country to arrest criminals. It was first field tested in Rajiv Gandhi Assassination case by National Crime Record Bureau.
• NBA-AICTE has granted the Accreditation to the B.E. courses of the University.
• The entire academic process is certified by ISO 9001:2000 by KPMG, USA
