Sensing the ever-growing need for competent and highly trained professionals endowed with rich business acumen, skills and aptitude to operate in the highly complex and fast-changing economic and industrial environment, the SMS Society, a philanthropic social organization, registered under the Societies Registration Act, 1860, established an autonomous nonprofit educational center, School of Management Sciences (SMS), in Varanasi avowed with a mission of imparting highly innovative management, computer and other technical education in the eastern part of India, which happened to be the need of the hour keeping in pace with the country's economy heading fast towards globalization.
With a modest beginning in 1995, SMS, Varanasi has never looked back. It has made consistent endeavour over the years to prove its National character as a Centre of Excellence in Management, Computer and Technical Education. SMS Varanasi is presently NAAC ‘A’ Grade accreditated Institute.
SMS, Varanasi started with the Post Graduate Diploma in Management, viz. PGDM approved by AICTE, Ministry of HRD, Government of India and thereafter added programmes, as per the need of the hour. Presently SMS,Varanasi is offering Master in Business Administration (MBA) and Master of Computer Application (MCA), approved by AICTE and affiliated to Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University. SMS, Varanasi is also offering other programmes, Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA), Bachelor of Computer Applications (BCA) , Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com), B.Com(Hons.) ,BA Hons. (Mass Communication) and Master of Commerce(M.Com) affiliated to Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapith, Varanasi.

Aware of its mission of producing highly competent Management and Technology graduates, the SMS Society established another centre of excellence at Lucknow. School of Management Sciences, Lucknow received B++ grade accreditation from NAAC - National Assessment and Accreditation Council (An Autonomous Institution of the University Grants Commission) Ministry of HRD Govt. of India in a very short span of 9 years. SMS is the only Institute and the youngest to have B++ Grade in Lucknow among the colleges offering Engineering and Management Courses. School of Management Sciences, Lucknow started its operations in the year 2008 with the Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) programme, duly approved by AICTE, Ministry of HRD, Government of India. School of Management Sciences, Lucknow presently offers the Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) programme and Master in Business Administration (MBA) programme approved by AICTE and affiliated to Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam Technical University. SMS Lucknow also offers Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA), Bachelor of Computer Application (BCA), Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com) and B.Com(Hons.), Bachelor of Vocation Studies B.Voc (Software Development), Bachelor of Science (B.Sc)-Maths programme affiliated to Lucknow University. More so as per the need of the hour Diploma in Engineering (Mechanical, Civil, Electrical and Computer Science) affiliated to Board of Technical Education has been added.
SMS Lucknow is recognised under section 2(f) & 12 (B) of UGC at 1956 and is also an ISO 9001:2015 certified Institute.

SMS Lucknow has two Center of Excellence – “Sir C.V. Raman Center for Research & Innovation “, and “Vedic Science Center”. SMS Lucknow also publishes two very well recognized and widely circulated Journal – “Samriddhi – An International Journal of Physical Sciences, Engineering & Technology, (listed in UGC list of Journal); and “Adhyayan” – A National Journal of Management Sciences. Both these Journals are available in Print as well as Online formats.

SMS, Lucknow is counted today, amongst the leading management and engineering institutes, not only in Lucknow, but in the country as well. It boasts of honing some of the finest architectural masterpieces in Lucknow, the city of Nawabs. With an ultra modern, well-equipped, lush green,Wi-Fi campus having state–of–the–art equipments, gadgetry and infrastructure alongwith highly experienced faculty that makes teaching and learning a smoothly blended culture, SMS, Lucknow dedicates its efforts towards grooming future managers and the technocrats to become outstanding entrepreneurs and business professionals. The strides of SMS have been recognized in various national and international forums.
