About  Central University of Punjab - CUP

The Central University of Punjab, Bathinda (Punjab) has been established through the Central Universities Act 2009 which received the assent of the President of India on 20th March 2009. Its territorial jurisdiction extends to the whole State of Punjab. It started its functioning from Camp Office in April, 2009 and from November 2009 it shifted to its City Campus spread over an area of 35 acres at Ghudda Village on the Bathinda–Badal road. The main campus is coming up on 500 acres of land near Bathinda. The buildings of the university are still under construction and these will be GRIHA IV compliant. It’s designs would be having maximum utilization of the sun energy. The existing traditional trees of Van and Jand would be preserved, primarily because of the Van tree being the motif for the logo of the university. The famous old tree Van (Salvadora oleoides), remains evergreen even in harsh conditions, providing shelter to livestock and the inhabitants, becoming a source of happiness and symbol of ‘Tree of Knowledge’. The open book below represents the scholarship spreading message of light leading to knowledge and wisdom. The university has started M.Phil.–Ph.D. Integrated Programmes in the areas of Bioscience, Comparative Literature, Environmental Sciences and South & Central Asian Studies. Study of one course in science would be compulsory for those opting for humanities/social sciences and similarly one course of humanities/social sciences would be compulsory for those joining the science/technology stream. The University is following semester system with 100% internal evaluation and continuous assessment. The University would be following grade point system. A credit transfer mechanism with the other universities would be introduced for the benefit of the students. The students would be able to see their evaluated answer sheets and they would also be participating in the teacher assessment programs.
