The Arunachal University of Studies has been established by Govt. of Arunachal Pradesh through an Act of State Legislator. The University is duly recognized by UGC u/s 2(f) and is empowered to award degrees specified u/s 22 of UGC Act 1956. The University is the member of Association of Indian Universities (AIU), New Delhi. The certifications issued by the University are globally accepted.

AUS is strategically located as it shares borders with many important districts of the region spread across theNorthern Brahmaputra belt such as Tinsukia, Dibrugarh, Pasighat, Longding, Tirap, Changlang, Lohit, Anjaw, Lower Dibang Valley, Dibang Valley, Siang, Upper Siang, Sibsagar, Jorhat, Moran, Golaghat, Dumdooma, Kakopathar, Digboi, Dulijan, Margherita, Naharkatia, Namrup, Dhemaji and North Lakhimpur. The University has excellent connectivity via National Highway NH-52 and NH-37 by Road, Rail (Tinsukia) and Air (Dibrugarh). The connectivity between Eastern Arunachal Pradesh with NW Arunachal Pradesh & Assam has immensely improved after commissioning of the largest Rail cum Road over Bogibeel Bridge & the longest & famous The Bhupen Hazarika Setu.
