About Christian Dental College & Hospital

Christian Dental College (CDC) Ludhiana was established in the year 1992 with the admission of 20 BDS students. This was possible by the untiring efforts of Dr A.V Chowdhary ( CMC Director from 1986 – 1992), Dr J.L Joshi ( CDC Principal 1992-2007), Rev Charles Reynolds ( US CMC Board Director) and many others. The primary aim for establishing the Christian Dental College was to train young individuals as professionals who would be motivated to take up working in needy parts of India through mission fields and other sponsoring agencies. CDC was initially affiliated to Panjab University and from August 2000 the affiliation shifted to BFUHS Faridkot.

From 1999 year onwards CDC admitted 40 students in each batch. In the year 2002, CDC was the first private dental college to start MDS course in the subject of Paedodontia and Preventive Dentistry. Later in the year 2014, MDS course was started in Prosthodontics and Maxillofacial Surgery. From its inception to its present form, the college is now placed amongst the top dental colleges of country.

The Christian Medical College & Hospital, Ludhiana is an educational and research institution of an all-India character established and run by the minority Christian community. Its primary aim is to educate and train Christian men and women as health professionals, in the spirit of Jesus Christ for the healing ministry of the Church in India. However, like many other Christian educational institutions, this college also offers educational facilities to other young men and women irrespective of religion, caste, and community. The Greenfield sisters and their associates organized the Health Care Educational Services in which endeavor Dr. Edith Mary Brown joined them in 1893 and in 1894 the North Indian School of Medicine for Christian Women was started by Dr. Edith Mary Brown and her colleagues with the object of training Indian nationals particularly the women, to serve in the field of Medical Education and Health Care Services, emphasizing the integration of training and health care services.
