Lady Shri Ram College for Women: Course Structure
In keeping with the requirements stipulated by Delhi University the B.A. Programme offered at LSR College is enumerated below:
Language Courses
Every student will study a compulsory course in English in the first and the third year each.
Every student will study a course in Hindi /Urdu /Subject in lieu of in the first and the second year each.
Courses in Hindi/Urdu
- Students who have studied Hindi up to Class 12th will do Hindi-A
- Students who have studied Hindi up to Class 10th will do Hindi-B
- Students who have studied Hindi up to Class 8th will do Hindi-C
- Students can choose Urdu instead of Hindi provided they have studied Urdu in Class 10th or Class 12th
Subject in lieu of Hindi/Urdu
Students who have studied Hindi/Urdu up to Class 8th have the option of choosing instead of Hindi/Urdu, a course in Economics, History, or Political Science.
The choice of subject will depend on the combination of Discipline Courses that they have chosen as per the table below

Discipline Courses
- Students are required to study courses of two disciplines in each year
- There is one paper each for the two disciplines in the first, second and third year
- The choice of discipline subject is available only in the first year
- Once you chose the discipline courses you stay with them for three years

Foundation Courses
Every student is required to opt for one foundation course in the second year of the programme. Foundation courses are interdisciplinary courses designed to familiarise students with ideas, concepts and debates that relate to our contemporary world. They seek to foster critical thinking and enhance the individual’s knowledge and learning.
LSR offers the following foundation courses:
- Gender, Human Rights and Environment
- Language Literature and Culture
- Application Courses
Every student is required to opt for one application course in the third year.
Application Courses are a unique blend of theory and practice that seek to fill the crucial gap between learning and doing. They are innovatively designed to encourage learning beyond the classroom and focus on practical application through field studies and project work. The teaching–learning process develops skills through an interactive methodology.
NOTE: Depending on student choice, merit, logistical imperatives and resource availability, LSR will offer from among the following:
(a) Creative writing
(b) Translation and Interpretation
(c) Computer Applications
(d) Indian Art Appreciation
(e) Conflict Resolution and Peace Building
(f) Globalization
(g) Life Crisis – Coping and Evolving
(h) Theatre and Performance
The courses finally offered amongst these, or others will once again depend on student choice, merit, resource and logistical constraints.
