About AB Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences

The A.B. Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences was founded in the year 1985 by the Nitte Education Trust with the objective of making available up-to-date training facilities to produce dental professionals and to help meet the country's growing health-care requirements. The A.B. Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences offers Graduate, Post Graduate and Doctoral training facilities. The Institution is a constituent unit of the Nitte University and is recognized by the Dental Council of India. It is affiliated to Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, and is recognised by the Dental Council of India.

Justice K.S. HEGDE in 1979 founded the Nitte Education Trust at a small village called Nitte, transforming it into an ultimate abode of learning, for students from all over the country and abroad.

The ABSM Institute of Dental Sciences is among the better equipped dental colleges in the country. All departments have state-of-the-art diagnostic and research equipments. The Institute's commitment to maintaining the highest standards pervades all aspects of dentistry irrespective of cost or effort involved. Facilities

Hostels - With a well-equipped campus for study, research and practice, the college has adequate residential facilities. The on campus hostel accommodations are in close proximity to the college and hospital. The boys hostel has 74 rooms and the girls hostel has 107 rooms accommodating students on a double occupancy basis.
The hostelers are provided with a cot, cupboard, study table and a chair. Every hostel has a solar heated water facility, common telephone, TV room, reading room / library, visitors lounge, water coolers, generators etc. The hostels also have facilities for indoor and outdoor games. The hostel fees, which includes the caution deposit, mess deposit and the room rent will be collected at the time of admission. The room rent for each academic year will be collected at the beginning of the year along with the other fees of the college

Library - The college Central Library came into existence with the establishment of this esteemed institution and at present located in the 7th floor. The main objective of our library is to meet the reading and informational requirement concerning teaching, research and other academic activities whose ultimate aim is to gain more and more knowledge specialization in specific fields of dentistry. The floor area of about 10,000sq.feet with a seating capacity of 200 people. The library has a collection of more than 6475 volumes and 53 National and International Journals along with their back volumes. Each Department maintains a Departmental Library with post graduate and under graduate reference books.

The computer lab - It is spread over 570 sq. feet, is a state of the art technology center for students to access some of the best available resources within and outside the campus. The intranet and internet facilities make these practices easy and reliable. The library computer and internet section provides facilities for online browsing and offline access for preparing seminar and conference presentations for faculty members and students. Other features include - 21 Desktop Computers connected by LAN Closed Circuit Network Camera (for University examination purposes) and Helinet consortia facilities

Banking - Students are facilitated to devote more time for their mental and physical development on campus, and for the same we have administered on campus banking facilities (Syndicate Bank) so that students can manage their money without having the inconvenience of having to go elsewhere for the same. Students can open and operate their personal accounts through which they can maintain and review their expenses. ATM facilities are also available on campus

Cafeteria - Students are provides with nutritious food and snacks through the cafe. The cafeteria meets the best standards of cleanliness and hygiene. It also provides some of the common standard food products.

Conveyance - The students are well supported with transport facility. Buses ply at regular intervals in and around the city to provide easy conveyance. The conveyance system helps the students who do not reside in the hostel to commute to and from the college with convenience. It also makes it easy for students who reside in the hostel to reach the city of Mangalore.

Hospital - The Justice K S Hegde Charitable Hospital, is a full fledged 625 bed hospital attached to the Institute. The hospital has state-of-the-art facilities in General Medicine, Paediatrics, Dermatology, General Surgery, Orthopaedics, ENT, Ophthalmology, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Radiology and Anaesthesiology. It houses the Emergency and Casualty sections, Out-patient consultation rooms and In-patient wards. It is also equipped with 11 modern operation theatres with facilities for pre and post - operative care, fully computerised C-arm with IITV, Spiral CT scan, MRI scan, Dialysis unit, Ultrasonography, Color Dopplers, 500 ma X-ray machine, Mammography and an Intensive Care Unit.

Achievements

Academic Exchange Programme - The institute has exchange programs with some of the world-renowned colleges and universities that provide students with international foresight. Exchange shared between the School of Dentistry (A.B.S.M.I.D.S) and the Okayama University Dental School, Japan.

International Recognition - It is one of the Institutions outside the UK to be recognised as a centre for training for specific courses by the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburg, England.
