M.Tech (Physical Metallurgy) or Master of Technology in Physical Metallurgy is a two year post graduate programme. The central point of this course is to provide a physical basis that links the structure of materials with their properties, focusing primarily on metals. With this understanding in hand, the concepts of alloy design and micro structural engineering are also discussed, linking processing and thermodynamics to the structure and properties of metals. One of the most serious problems confronting the engineer is the selection, treatment, and use of metals and alloys. These problems cannot be left entirely left entirely to the specialist known as the metallurgist, but must be dealt with to an appreciable extent by the engineer. course covers the basic topics in metallurgy, giving the student the tools to work with and understand metallurgical processes and concepts.  The effect of heating and alloying on metals is reviewed.  Equilibrium and non-equilibrium states are compared.
