M.E. - Structural Engineering Course Detail
To become a Structural Engineer, Structural Engineering Courses in India are the most suitable platforms for any aspiring candidate. Structural Engineering is a field of Engineering which deals with the analysis and design of structures that support or resist loads. Structural Engineering is actually a branch of Civil Engineering. Principles of Structural Engineering are based upon physical laws and empirical knowledge of the structural performance of different landscapes and materials. Structural Engineering design utilises a relatively small number of basic structural elements to build up structural systems that can be very complex. Structural Engineers utilise funds in a creative and efficient manner utilising structural elements and materials. They are involved in the designing and assisting of buildings, bridges, tunnels, towers, houses, theatres, sports stadia, hospitals, bridges, oil rigs, space satellites, office etc. They are also involved in the demolition or dismantling of a structure, either permanently or in order to repair it. Apart from that they also inspect buildings, both during and after construction and oversee the use of the concrete, steel and timber of which they are made. Entry-level structural Engineers may design the individual structural elements of a structure, for example the beams, columns, and floors of a building. More experienced Engineers would be responsible for the structural design and integrity of an entire system, such as a building. Smaller construction firms take on Engineers when they need them for specific projects. These are known as ‘Contract Engineers’.
M.E. - Structural Engineering Job Description
Job Perspectives
Career options include moving from an Engineering consultancy to a construction company, or vice versa. Another option is to work as a self-employed contract Engineer and be paid for each contract completed. Some structural Engineers set up their own Engineering consultancies, either alone or with partners. A few are employed in architects offices, researcher or an academic, working in a university department and investigating entirely novel structural options with a range of construction materials, or teaching the subject at undergraduate or postgraduate level. Most jobs for structural engineers in India are centred around Engineering consultancies. These organisations range from large companies operating internationally, sometimes with offices in many countries, to small firms run by one person. Large construction companies often offer their clients a ‘design and build’ service, maintaining their own designers, including Structural Engineers.
Structural Engineers are occasionally employed by such organisations as railway operators, aircraft manufacturers and oil companies. There is huge opportunity and choice for young people starting out in a career in structural Engineering. Structural Engineering is a worldwide profession and membership of the Institution of Structural Engineers provides a qualification which will allow you to work almost anywhere in the world.
